free boondock camping in junction, tx

free off-grid boondocking in central Texas? yes please.

Junction City Park (Schreiner Park) is a free spot for boondockers and van lifers about two hours outside of San Antonio.

there is a 3-day camping limit, no electricity or water hookups, but park police patrol the area, so it’s not too sketchy, and you don’t need to stealth camp.

free camping is on the NORTH side of the river/lake. first come, first serve, so no reservations. no parking between the bridge and the dam, but you can get a nice free spot near the water if you get there early enough.

there is also parking under the pecan trees, but beware of the high winds if you want to avoid damage.

there were bathrooms, but they were questionable so i didn’t use them.

i have Mint Mobile for phone service and data hotspot with Calyx Institute, and i had enough cell service to be able to work.

i showed up the day after Easter, so that may explain the influx of flies around the outside of the van. i ended up spending most of the time inside the van, but the clouds were overcast enough to not be uncomfortable.

i will definitely be back again. can’t beat the price of free-ninety-nine.
